Central New York is at the center of New York's Creative Core, a twelve county area including the five counties from Central New York (Cayuga, Cortland. Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego) and seven others that span the state from north to south (Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, St. Lawrence, Seneca, and Tompkins).

Diverse Economy

Over the past decade, employers in the region have developed particular strength in key technology clusters which are driving growth and entrepreneurship: biosciences and medical devices; digital and electronic devices including sensors; and telecommunications and information technology. The Central New York region is home to 19 state and private colleges and universities with a combined enrollment of more than 62,000 students, about 17% of whom were enrolled in graduate programs. Real Focus on Sustainability
The region is emerging as a national leader in the area of renewable energy and environmental systems and is home to New York’s Center of Excellence for Environmental and Energy Systems. This growth is a result of Central New York’s assets in higher education; entrepreneurial businesses; support for continuous research and innovation; and available natural resources such as clean water, biomass, and wind. The region’s micro-climates sustain a broad range of agribusiness from fuel to 10,000 acres of vineyards, to organic fruit and vegetable farms with benefits seen on the plates of local restaurants and in the future reduction of dependency on foreign oil.

Young leaders organizations in the region join the list of collaborative groups driving civic engagement and volunteerism to create and support a strong quality of life for everyone in the region. Accessible Recreation
When the work day is finished recreation is close at hand. The average commute in Central New York is 22 minutes, so it won’t take you long to get there. With affordable housing prices (the average home price is $80,775) you can relax in your own backyard or take advantage of the 120 state, county, and city parks; more than a dozen downhill ski trails and miles of cross country ski trails; 160 museums, art galleries, and theaters; and 25% of the world’s fresh water for swimming, boating, and fishing to unwind and relax with friends and family.
